Album Lyrics

1. SOMETHING WILL COME

The scent from you is still on me

and something else, an empty feeling

Your name has been on my lips

since something dropped, you let it slip

Something will come

and call the names of you and me

and we will find out

what it's supposed to be

see how we could have been.

I think we should have been

Something drags you up

from the hole you dug yourself

and you open your eyes,

it's like a treasure chest

I wish i had said the right thing

but the truth came, anyway

And something will come undone

something you lack

is bringing it on

can you do me a favour,

kiss me back

because you said it's your favourite flavour

2. GARDEN

Garden, I'll meet you by the fountain

where you'll find us killing time.

I wish I were you, I'd rather be you,

but there's mountains in front of you.

Garden, I always like to find them

in the back of a book

signed 'best wishes, now take a look'.

Garden, always all the way

you just got away

you just stuck to the back of my hand

when I said it was work I hope you understand

when the back of my throat

would fill up with sand

I wish I were you, I'd rather be you,

but there's mountains in front of you.

3.  SPY

There's a spy in my eye

and he looks the way

that I thought he would,

and he gets in my way.

In a lonely way,

he will lose the day.

There's a spy

There's a spy in the way

and he knows all about me

and he whispers lies

and he tries to unfold me

And I use him

by all that I know

and the things that he sees in my soul

make make me know.

There's a spy in my eye

and he makes me think

of a better time

and he tries to destroy me.

You're never going to lose your way

you're going to be the same

you're never going to lose your tail

You're never going to find your way

you're never going to be the same

You're never going to lose your tail

4. HOTEL

'Yes it's me', she said, in a paper dress

'Mary Jane, back from the dead'

'Yes it's me', she said

through a hearing aid

tuned to a pitch that only dogs hear.

Yes it's me, as you can see

by torchlight and the smell

You're going to be the best in the world

You won't die young and you'll never get old.

Wouldn't you miss me, if I were gone?

Wouldn't you miss me?

No I'd keep it going on.

Without you I'd fit in much nicer

without you I'd fit in much tighter

I don't mean it unkindly don't think that I would,

wouldn't I?

I don't mean it unkindly don't think that I would, no no no.

Oh well I listened, by night and by day

oh well I listened, and I used it

in every way

All of those years that she's waited

closed out and cold and humiliated

alarm clock at four in the morning

feels like a four minute warning

This is my paper thin hotel

how can you tell that she's broken in?

Surely there's something to warm her cold fears

Mary Jane can you hear?

5. ASK

Do stars collide when he sings to you

do his eyes do funny things to you?

No I thought not, pardon me

I'm living in the past you see

A past where you thought that way

and now you think,

'that romantic girl was that me?'

Ask, was that really me?

you may well ask

what did he do to undo me

and ask, was that really me?

and who am I, ask as I pass myself by

You ask yourself 'am I all there?

You just have to ask me, I'd know you anywhere

standing up against the fridge

or lying down in the dark of a railway bridge

It seems to me it's poetry

it passes from you to what passes for me

Don't cry for anything

I will give to you medicine

I'll be there, when you're drunk

and you fall down the stairs

And I won't care

If you're not really there

If you're not really there

6.  MERMAID

Can you see, there's a ship with trouble on it

can you see, my flag is disappearing

can you save me from Neptune's stomach?

I'd like to see you lazing on a rock with limpets on it.

Over the placid sea, comes your gentle calling

and your voice my dear, removes my fear of drowning.

Could it be there's something magic in you,

How could it be that the sea is so tragic for me?

As I float on the brine face upwards

feels like time stopped and started going backwards

and I lose my sense of all direction.

It's the best ruse to remedy unwanted recollection

What it seemed to me

a mermaid smiling at me

and what I thought I knew

was something that was calling to me.

7. LIZARD LIBERATION DAY

Lizards on a glass table, lazy and green.

I'm underneath; healthy and clean.

Tell me all the things

that make you want to be with me.

There's nothing worse than scrapping in the dark.

On Liberation Day

we'll all lose our tails.

On liberation day

we'll blow the past away.

Standing in a red bull fight

in your hands,

Your eyes stare at me

wherever I stand.

There's got to be something that's got some sympathy with me

a lizard army keeps on marching on.

Lizards on a glass table

crazy as hell,

caffeine on my teeth like

dogs in Christabel.

In a voice that makes light bulbs explode

you want to sing along,

these things that form a queue for you to laugh

On Liberation day, We'll all lose our tails

On liberation day we'll blow the past away.

8. CARAVAN

I've got bright lights in my soul

a Halloween parade

and a candle and a box of coal.

If you think these things are no good for you

Keep taking the pills no thrills

and stay in bed and sleep till two.

Won't you take me

by the hand.

You could take up the beach

and take me to your caravan.

You and me by the sea,

like we did last year,

take me to your caravan don't leave me here.

I got big eyes burning me

am I a bad man if I burn from purity?

I can feel them just like the first time on the sand

So look me in the eye

whisper in my ear

scratch your finger in the palm of my hand.

Don't buy me toffee apples from the pier

I don't want no roller coaster imitation fear

Now you look me up and down that's just what I meant

What's going to happen next except something nothing disappointment.

9. NOT TONIGHT, JOSEPHINE

When you lie in e middle of the stream,

will you hold your breath or will you drown?

There's a house for your love and your anger,

will you build it up or burn it down?

It's a long long ferry rise

a wrong thought satisfied for you

Not tonight Josephine you're like a phone-call from a cold war

You and me at the entrance of the tube

by the gates wait in the rain and dew.

We pressed together on the concertina gates,

no new messages sent he waits for you.

There's a word for the things that you do,

would you like me to spell it out for you?

Now I will walk with a stick and a limp

and a full stop painted country view.

There's a noise like ticking in the rain,

a high heel tap that spells your name

a Morse code murder mystery

give up, give up, start again.

10. MY BEST FRIEND

I began the day

it seemed as if I'd strayed

I'd like to send to you

a message, come home soon

I've never known the way

to tell you or to say

what is that thing with us?

I'll never have enough

And how I wish we could be normal

and how I wish we weren't awful

and how I wish you weren't my best friend

But sometimes when we're together

you know I wouldn't change things ever

and I'm so happy that you're my best friend

I got lost today

the city was a maze

I felt as if I'd wandered

miles away from you

and standing at your side

in photographic smiles

a thousand miles from you

a thousand miles from you
